So today I was really focusing on the negative shapes.
Every line has it's purpose and this show and its incredible art definitely exhibits this. I learned a lot, specifically the art of 3s.
I see 4s in negative shapes when an action is invoked, or simply the portion of the figure you want to really accentuate.
3s = triad shapes 4s = quad shapes
The three things that stick out to me is the act of drawing and thinking of internal shapes, external negative shapes, and using line to reduce.
Internal shapes or basically the shapes that comprise of your image are usually in 3s (i.e. triangular in shape). If they are quad in nature then they introduce detail lines to reduce the shape into smaller triangular shapes. So if Yoda's arm is composed of 4 angles a detail line will be introduced to reduce it to a 3 angle. This formula continues throughout.
For void negative shapes (shapes that cut into your silhouette) I found this most interesting. These shapes are more obvious and you can really see how an artist is thinking when he's cutting out his drawing. Keeping it in 3s and 4s, and 4s I see when separation is needed and/or the need for an action.
